Someone has actually combined my love of coffee and my favourite suffix...ish! Thus creating Cafe Ish. Does this mean I should start believing in God or something?

Sneak Peak: Righty Righty Right!

Today I worked with stylist Lenya Jones for the first time on an editorial shoot for American magazine Righty Righty Right - and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Lenya was so easy to work with, and was happy for me to voice my opinion - a rare and treasured quality.

I Just Fell In Love With My Book; Is That Wrong?

An excerpt from the book I just started reading, Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Klosterman;

"There are two ways to look at life.

Actually, that’s not true; I suppose there are thousands of ways to look at life. But I tend to dwell on two of them. The first view is that nothing stays the same and that nothing is inherently connected, and that the only driving force in anyone’s life is entropy. The second is that everything pretty much stays the same (more or less) and that everything is completely connected, even if we don’t realize it."

Magazine Cover Trends

I'm really loving the new look of minimalism that has been gracing the covers of Australia fashion magazines all over. Stevie Dance began the trend when she took over the reigns of Russh back in January 2010 with their issue Get High.

This was quickly embraced by Oyster with their Feb/March 2010 issue Print Is Dead.

And finally Vogue Australia has just now released it's first issue in this style. Even though Vogue isn't 100% my thing, this cover totally jumped out at me, and convinced me to buy it! The combination of Meg Gray (Fashion Editor), Nicole Bentley (Photographer), Alina Baikova (Model) and an explosion of colour completely won me over.

Maybe this has something to do with my graphic design background, but I just always hated the clutter that normally accompanies covers. I love this clean, streamlined look - I think it is so chic and sophisticated and really gives the images space to breathe and speak.

Gotta See It!

 
Now, I have been told on more than one occasion by my friends that I have a "weird" taste in movies. I would have to concur with this conclusion I suppose, but I always take it as a compliment. In terms of art (and in turn, of life) I am "turned-on" by anything that is different and that can challenge the way I think or view the world.

A perfect example of this is the movie Red State, which I only just watched the trailer for now - and by the way, SO freakin excited to see this movie. The characters are apparently inspired by the followers of the Westboro Baptist Church and their leader Pastor Fred Phelps. For those of you who have never heard of the Westboro Baptist Church, here is a very quick run-down: They are an independent church infamous for their intense hatred of homosexuality, and regularly picket funerals of American soldiers, shouting chants such as "God Hates Fags, God Hates America". This is obviously not what they are exclusively about, so if this interests you, check out Louis Theroux's  fantastic social documentary "The Most Hated Family In America".

So as I was saying, Red State is inspired by these characters; and I would assume their portrayal has been somewhat intensified and hollywoodised, as this film is classified as a horror. The plot is as follows: Three teenage school boys come across an online personal advertisement from an older woman looking for kinky group sex. But what begins as a fantasy takes a dark, violent turn as they come face-to-face with a terrifying fundamentalist force with a fatal agenda*. Definitely one to watch out for.

Today I Learnt To Juggle!

 
Now...as some of you may not know, there is actually no such thing as a full time styling job. And just like any other freelance job, it's completely up and down and completely unpredictable (which I both adore and detest).

This brings me to the first appointment of my day. I interviewed for a casual retail job at Joanie Loves Chachi in Woollahra, and met the lovely designer Jodi Griffiths. So easy-going and down to earth, it's no wonder her clothes embody the same sense of ease and effortless beauty. I'm so excited to trial there next week...wish me luck!

So off I go to my next appointment, which took me into the heart of Chippendale, and to the offices of fashion powerhouse NMI (Nick Mascitelli Imports), where I interviewed within the PR department for an internship*. They are home to absolutely insane labels like Galliano, Just Cavalli and K Karl Lagerfeld, to name a few. And after 1 referral and 10 minutes of chit-chat, I got the internship and start next week! So yay for me!

Now the only thing left to do is balance a retail job and an internship on top of an increasingly busy styling schedule. Yay for me?

*this basically means all work and no pay - but if you're serious about any facet of the fashion industry, you just have to suck it up, and stick it out!

Some of my favourite looks and why:

COLOUR: So I'm absolutely dying over the ombre in this Monique Lhuillier dress worn by Julia Stiles! The crisp white contrasted against the deep navy blue is just stunning - even if the silhouette is a little simple.

PRETTY: Helen Morris is a vision of ethereal beauty in this feather and bead detailed, strapless Romona Kevezanude gown.

SEXY: Lea Michele looks fresh-faced and utterly sophisticated in Oscal de la Renta accompanied by a killer Tiffany bracelet.

PRINT: I absolutely love seeing Claire Danes in this Louis Vuitton strapless, printed dress. I must confess though, I do have a soft spot for prints and colour, but I feel this one works, and complements Claire's colouring well - not a hug fan of the belt hanging down though.

 YUMMY: James Franco in Gucci - need I say more?
